WEEK 3 CFL BETTING PREVIEW 2019
Edmonton Eskimos at Winnipeg Blue Bombers
After a satisfying 3-2 finish last week following an 0-2 start, we kick things off this Canada Day Weekend of CFL action with the premiere matchup of the week with the high-flying 2-0 Eskimos heading on the road to face the 1-0 Blue Bombers in Winnipeg.
Although many casual fans will expect Edmonton to pose a real threat to the Bombers after lighting up the scoreboard to the tune of 71 points over their first two games, the aggressive spread movement from Winnipeg -3.5 to -5 at the time of writing indicates to me that the sharps are happy to lay the points with the home team.
This makes sense from a historical perspective, with Winnipeg going 20-8 ATS over their last 28 against winning teams, as well as 5-2 ATS in their past seven vs teams from the West. Additionally, Winnipeg holds a 3-0-1 record ATS over their last 4 games following a bye week, which they just had in week 2.
As for the game total, with the over having hit in four straight meetings between these two teams in Winnipeg and the run-and-gun nature of their offenses so far this season, this looks like a good spot to buy some points and look for the trend to continue.

NOTE: Although we’re not following it to a T today, the short ebook below by legendary sports-bettor Masaru Kanemoto offers an incredible introduction to football teasers that I’ll be relying on heavily come NFL season and whenever I can during CFL betting as well (the much smaller schedule makes it tough to use as religiously there). Montreal Alouettes @ Hamilton Tiger-Cats – Week 3 CFL betting preview
The Alouettes are taking their 0-1 record on the road led by a backup QB versus one of the toughest at-home teams in the league who are currently sitting on a perfect 2-0 record after absolutely demolishing Toronto to the tune of 64-10 last week. Additionally, the Als will be without All-star Safety Taylor Loffler, who is listed as out for this game.
With that said, if you’re searching for a Montreal angle it’s this: The Alouettes are 4-0 ATS in their last four following a loss, and 5-0 ATS in their last five against teams with a winning record. And with the Tiger-Cats having near-unanimous support in this one, an argument can be made for fading the masses against the spread in this one.
Is that enough to bet on the team many expected to end the season at the bottom of the East against the one primed to be at the top? Not for this guy it isn’t! But I will be giving Montreal some respect by taking Hamilton as a teaser-bet combined with the Over, which should be in play most times the Tiger-Cats are playing.

BC Lions @ Calgary Stampeders – Week 3 CFL betting preview
Not many people are giving the Lions much chance in this one facing the defending Grey Cup champions after losing their first 2 games, but I could see this one being much closer than we might expect with the Lions taking out the Stamps 38-36 in preseason play just a month ago.
With the preseason championship-favorite Lions (a title they admittedly most likely did not deserve) going down 0-2 to start the season, they’ll be motivated as all hell to put a W on the board and not dig themselves too big of a hole right out of the gate. However, on paper the Stamps still hold a significant advantage, and with the home-field advantage in play – as well as an extra week of preparation in the books coming off a week 2 bye – I still have to give them the edge, though it’s about as uncomfortable of one as you can get early in the season. I don’t think fading this game can be too bad of a mistake, but since I’m an action junkie, I’ll still be taking a shot on the Stampeders as part of a two-team 6-point teaser-bet.

Toronto Argonauts @ Saskatchewan Roughriders – Week 3 CFL betting preview
Rounding out this exciting weekend of CFL action, the 0-1 Toronto Argonauts will be traveling to Saskatchewan on Canada’s Day to take on the 0-2 Roughriders, who have vastly under-preformed preseason expectations thus far.
And while Toronto is coming off the previously mentioned Thanos-sized ass-whooping against the Tiger-Cats last week, the line action in this one – which has turned the Argos from a 13.5 point underdog to 11.5 dogs at time of writing – makes me think this one may not turn into the blowout many are expecting. Because although Saskatchewan was projected to have one of the best defenses in the league this year, the 33.5 points/game they’ve given up so far has made them look anything but.
With that said, when it comes to the game-total, I do think we have to rely on what we’ve seen from these two teams so far to a certain extent and look for an ugly game absent the high-scoring shootouts we’ve seen across the league over the first couple of week.
